Dr. Elio Gutiérrez-Montoya completed his doctoral program in Clinical Psychology at California Northstate University and a postdoctoral residency at the Adult Outpatient Assessment Clinic at Kaiser Roseville. He completed his undergraduate education at UC Davis and earned his master's degree at California Northstate University. His doctoral research examined how the learning environment mediates both academic and mental health outcomes in graduate-level students, with an emphasis on students from marginalized populations.
Before his psychological training, he spent over ten years at UC Davis developing, evaluating, and coordinating university recruitment, outreach, and retention efforts, as well as working as an academic and career advisor.
Dr. Gutiérrez-Montoya's mental health work has spanned academic, clinical, and private settings. His training has emphasized cognitive and intellectual assessment, ADHD evaluation, and working with both youth and adults from marginalized populations, including LGBTQIA+, BIPOC, and foster/adopted youth and their caregivers. Before pursuing his psychological training, he developed and coordinated university recruitment, outreach, and retention efforts, and also worked as an academic and career advisor. In his free time, he enjoys hiking, exploring new places, playing board games, and engaging in artistic expression and performance.
Dr. Gutiérrez-Montoya is a native speaker of both English and Spanish and is comfortable conducting evaluations in either language.
